Operations Director – STEM (Apprenticeships & Training)

Location: Midlands
Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 + 20% bonus + car / car allowance
  
We are recruiting for a senior leadership role overseeing one of the most significant training contracts in the UK. This opportunity sits at the intersection of STEM education, vocational learning, and commercial adult training – delivering high-quality programmes across technical, engineering and customer-focused disciplines.
  
The role:

• Lead a team of 40 people, including 4 direct managers
• Hold full accountability for operational delivery, performance, and growth of a £6m P&L.
• Oversee apprenticeships and commercial training – accountable for QAR, success, outcomes & client satisfaction.
• Act as the senior client contact, ensuring exceptional service, detailed reporting, and continuous improvement against demanding performance expectations.
• Drive stronger connections with the client to enhance CX and learner outcomes.

About you:

• A background in STEM vocational learning is essential – ideally from engineering, automotive, or another technical education field.
• Significant leadership experience in large-scale learning operations, workforce upskilling programmes, or technical training/apprenticeships delivery.
• Proven success managing multimillion-pound budgets and driving financial performance.
• Highly skilled in client management and comfortable working with detail-oriented, exacting stakeholders.
• Able to inspire, motivate, and develop multi-disciplinary teams to deliver consistently at a high level.

What’s on offer:
